Historic Downtown Marion was part of an important redevelopment effort this week as Heritage Ohio and Downtown Redevelopment Services began work on a Downtown Real Estate Development Plan and Housing Study supported by a USDA grant.
Downtown Marion was one of three communities selected for this grant cycle, along with Downtown Tiffin and Downtown Urbana. The study is focused on identifying opportunities to strengthen downtown districts, support building reuse and explore future housing potential.
Throughout the week, Downtown Marion, Inc. Executive Director Allen Wilson joined Heritage Ohio Executive Director Matt Wiederhold and Downtown Redevelopment Services Planning Lead Nathan Davis for stakeholder interview sessions and assessment tours of several underutilized downtown buildings.
One of the most exciting parts of the process was the opportunity to step inside historic downtown spaces that are rarely seen by the public. These buildings hold remarkable history, character and potential, and the study will help identify ways they can continue contributing to the future of downtown Marion.
DMI extends a special thank-you to the community stakeholders and property owners who shared their time, insight, vision and spaces throughout the week. Their participation is an important part of planning for the next phase of downtown redevelopment.
We look forward to seeing what opportunities come from this study as DMI continues working with local, regional and statewide partners to bring new life to historic properties and strengthen downtown Marion as the heart of our community.
