Do You Know Who We Really Are—and What We Do?

We understand there has been some confusion surrounding the roles of different organizations working in downtown Marion. As activity continues to grow, it’s easy to see how responsibilities can be blurred. We want to take a moment to clearly explain who does what, and how each contributes to the continued growth and success of our community.

To be clear, Downtown Marion, Inc. is an independent nonprofit organization.

We are not the City of Marion, Ohio and are not responsible for city services, infrastructure, or regulatory decisions.

We are also not affiliated with Henry Development Group or its Main Street Reimagined initiative. We do not participate in or make decisions related to private development projects, property ownership, or tenant selection.

City of Marion, Ohio - is the local government entity responsible for essential public services and infrastructure. This includes streets, sidewalks, lighting, utilities, public safety (police and fire), zoning, and code enforcement. The City also plays a critical role in long-term planning, capital improvement projects, and ensuring that downtown remains safe, accessible, and functional for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Henry Development Group & Main Street Reimagined is a private development company. Their role is focused on investing in downtown through the purchase, renovation, and redevelopment of properties. Projects led by private developers are independent business ventures, and they make decisions regarding property use, tenants, and construction. Their work is a key piece of downtown’s physical transformation and long-term economic vitality.

While these four entities often operate within the same geographic area and may collaborate from time to time, each has a distinct and separate role. It is the combination of nonprofit leadership, public infrastructure, and private investment that drives meaningful and sustainable progress in downtown Marion.

We hope this helps provide clarity.
