Marion County is gearing up for a spectacular celebration of America’s 250th birthday, and the highlight is Red, White & You Weekend from July 16–19 2026.

The weekend brings together patriotic traditions, family fun and community spirit at venues across Marion. Here’s what to expect.

Thursday, July 16 — Third Thursday Goes Red, White & Blue

Kick off the festivities at Founders Park in downtown Marion as Downtown Marion Inc. transforms its popular Third Thursday series into a patriotic celebration. Starting at 4:30 p.m. on July 16, 2026, the event features live music, food vendors and activities, all set against the backdrop of Marion’s historic Main and Church Streets. Downtown Marion Inc. organizes Third Thursday events, and this special edition invites residents and visitors to don their red, white and blue for an evening of community fun. Admission is free.

Friday, July 17 — Homecoming Picnic at the Harding Presidential Library & Museum

On Friday evening, July 17 2026, the celebration moves to the Warren G. Harding Presidential Library & Museum (380 Mt. Vernon Ave.) for a Homecoming Picnic. According to the Marion Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, the picnic begins at 5 p.m. and welcomes families and friends to enjoy food and fellowship on the lawn. This event is part of a statewide initiative encouraging communities across Ohio to host July 2026 homecoming picnics as part of the America 250 commemoration.

Saturday, July 18 — Wreath‑Laying Ceremony and O‑H‑I‑Oh! Birthday Party

Wreath‑Laying Ceremony

Saturday morning begins with a solemn Wreath‑Laying Ceremony at the Harding Memorial, located at the corner of Delaware Ave. and Vernon Heights Blvd. The ceremony starts at 10:30 a.m. and honors President Warren G. Harding’s legacy as America remembers its history. Admission is free.

O‑H‑I‑Oh! What a Celebration Birthday Party

At noon on Saturday, head to the Explore‑It‑Torum Children’s Museum for a lively O‑H‑I‑Oh! What a Celebration Birthday Party. The museum, operated by MARCA Industries, is hosting this family‑friendly block party as part of its grant‑funded America 250 programming. The event is scheduled for 12 p.m. on July 18 2026 and will feature interactive activities, games and birthday treats. MARCA Industries emphasises that the party is free and open to the public.

Sunday, July 19 — Old‑Fashioned Ice Cream Social

Wrap up the Red, White & You weekend with a sweet treat at the Old‑Fashioned Ice Cream Social. Hosted by the Marion Women’s Club & Home at 1126 E. Center St., this event begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 19 2026 and invites everyone to enjoy ice cream and good company. (The Women’s Club has served the community for over a century, and its ice cream social continues that tradition.).

Why Attend?

Red, White & You Weekend offers something for everyone—music and vendors at Third Thursday, a nostalgic picnic at the Harding Presidential Library, a meaningful wreath‑laying ceremony, a playful children’s party at the Explore‑It‑Torum and a community ice cream social. As Marion joins the nation in commemorating the 250th anniversary of independence, these events showcase the county’s hospitality, history and forward‑looking spirit.

Mark your calendars for July 16–19 2026 and plan to celebrate America’s 250th in Marion!
