DOWNTOWN MARION — Fall has officially arrived, and downtown Marion is heading into the season with a full weekend of live music, fall crafts, karaoke, brunch, a family movie, Mahjong and patio time.
From painting pumpkins and singing Dolly Parton on Friday night to Frozen, live music and game night Saturday, then brunch and a Sunday afternoon patio show, here’s what’s happening downtown from Friday, Sept. 25, through Sunday, Sept. 27.
Friday, September 18
Marion – Beth of Beth’s Country Crafts leads a fall pumpkin-painting workshop with a choice of white or orange faux pumpkins, stencils, paint and supplies. Cost is $23 for the pumpkin, with a glass of wine available for an additional $7 and an optional foam-top and foliage add-on for $12. Registration was required by Sept. 22, so check with the venue regarding any remaining availability.
7:00 PM – Live Music with Pirogue and Sonic Canvas – Shovel City Drinkery – 181 N. Main St., Marion – Two bands take over Shovel City for the night. Sonic Canvas performs a blend of rock, violin, piano and familiar favorites, while Columbus-based Pirogue brings blues, rock and jam-band influences. Steak-N-It Food Truck will be outside from 5 to 9 p.m., with live music from 7 to 10 p.m. Free.
7:00 PM – Dolly Parton Tribute Karaoke Night – Kin & Kilt – 130 S. Prospect St., Marion – Dolly Parton favorites take center stage during a special tribute karaoke night from 7 to 10 p.m. During the event, $1 from every cocktail sold will be donated to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Saturday, September 19
10:00 AM – BRUNCH, PLEASE! A Mimosa-Fueled Throwback Sing-Along – Bucci’s Italian Scratch Kitchen – 320 W. Center St., Marion – The sing-along brunch returns to Bucci’s with mimosas, food, throwback songs and a room full of voices belting out the songs people know by heart. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
2:00 PM – Disney’s Frozen Sing-a-Long – Marion Palace Theatre – 276 W. Center St., Marion – Anna, Kristoff, Sven and Olaf return to the big screen for a family sing-along showing of Disney’s Frozen. Tickets are $3 for Palace members, $5 for non-members and free for children 12 and under. Tickets are available at the door beginning 45 minutes before showtime.
3:00 PM – Game Night: Mahj 102 with The Poppy Pair – Blend of Seven Winery – 146 W. Center St., Marion – The Poppy Pair leads a beginner-friendly Mahjong session with an hour of guided instruction followed by an hour of play. Cost is $23 per person or $30 with a glass of wine. Space is limited to 20 players. Registration was required by Sept. 22, so check with the venue regarding availability.
7:00 PM – Live Music with Josh Houdek – Kin & Kilt – 130 S. Prospect St., Marion – Josh Houdek brings a solo acoustic rock-and-roll set from 7 to 10 p.m., featuring ’90s favorites alongside classic rock from artists including Tom Petty, David Bowie and The Rolling Stones.
8:00 PM – Karaoke Night – Fable Bar & Co. – 119 W. Huber St., Marion – Karaoke returns to Fable Bar & Co. from 8 to 11 p.m. Admission is free.
Sunday, September 20
10:00 AM – BRUNCH, PLEASE! A Mimosa-Fueled Throwback Sing-Along – Bucci’s Italian Scratch Kitchen – 320 W. Center St., Marion – Bucci’s keeps the weekend going with another round of BRUNCH, PLEASE! from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event combines brunch, mimosas and throwback sing-along energy in downtown Marion.
1:00 PM – Sunday Funday Patio Party with PJ Titus – Shovel City Drinkery – 181 N. Main St., Marion – PJ Titus closes out the weekend on the patio with music from 1 to 4 p.m., including ’70s rock, ’80s favorites, ’90s alternative, country and a few deeper cuts. Master of the Griddle Breakfast Truck will be outside from 12:30 to 5 p.m., and Sunday drink specials will be available throughout the day.
