Marion County will celebrate this Memorial Day on Monday May 30, 2016 with a parade and ceremony in downtown Marion. The parade will step off at 10 am from Fahey Bank on North Main St and will proceed directly South to the Marion Cemetery.
This year’s parade will consist of approximately 35 units highlighted by the Marion Harding High School Band and Gran Marshall, Lt. Colonel Brenda K. Eiseman.
Following the parade there will be a Memorial Day Service at the Marion Cemetery.
The parade and ceremony is sponsored by the Memorial and Veteran’s Day Association which is an organization comprised of veterans and auxiliary members of the American Legion Posts 162, 584, and 605, VFW Posts 3313 and 7201, AmVets Post 138, Marion County Veterans Service Office, Korean War Veterans Association Chapter 136 and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1117. The Memorial and Veterans Day Association was inspired by two veterans who made a promise years ago that every fallen hero laid to rest in Marion Cemeteries would have a flag waving over their resting place on Memorial Day.
