The premier Miles for Marion 5K and Block Party will be held Saturday October 3, 2015.
Registration will begin at 9 am and the 5K will start at 10 am at the Richland Road Church of Christ. Participants will run/walk 3.1 miles through the Marion Community and finish at the Block Party on Orchard Street, by the Harding Centre in Downtown Marion.
Free parking is available at the First Church of the Nazarene. Marion City Schools will provide transportation from the church in Downtown Marion to the starting point.
The 5K will be managed and timed by Speedy Sneakers Racing.
The Block Party will be a family-friendly event celebrating the Marion Community and the Ohio State vs Indiana football game. Activities include local food trucks, beer/wine garden, cornhole tournament and local entertainment.
The purpose of the 5K and Block Party is to collaborate as a community in raising funds to support Downtown Marion Inc. and The Ohio State University at Marion.
- Downtown Marion Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization focused on the revitalization of downtown Marion as a central hub of the community, restoring it to its former state of functionality, accessibility and profitability. Proceeds from Miles for Marion will be used to support the revitalization efforts of Downtown Marion Inc., with a portion specifically going to purchase updated Christmas decorations.
- The GoBuck$ Scholarship provides incentives for K-12 students in Marion City and Marion County Schools to reach attendance and achievement goals throughout the school year. Tuition vouchers are given to students who perform the necessary requirements to reach these goals. The vouchers are then used toward tuition at The Ohio State University at Marion.
