The 2014-2015 Leadership Marion! class would like to congratulate The Candy Shack and Café and owner Jody Lackey for being voted as ‘Marion’s Best Taste’ during A Taste of Marion on August 11th. Lackey and The Candy Shack received a trophy as well as a $500.00 prize for winning the inaugural event, as voted on by the near SELLOUT crowd.
Not only did The Candy Shack win, but so did Downtown Marion, Inc. and Rushmore Academy – the beneficiaries of the nearly $9,000 generated by the Leadership Marion! project. The funds will go to Downtown Marion, Inc. to purchase supplies & equipment for Rushmore Academy students to assist in the beautification of the downtown area; which also supplements Rushmore Academy’s jobs program.
The Leadership Marion! class a had a goal of generating $5,000, but local restaurants & caterers, Downtown Marion, Inc., Marion Area Chamber of Commerce, event sponsors, Palace Theatre and ESPECIALLY MARION’S ENTHUSIASTIC RESIDENTS came out in full force to nearly double that goal…even after expenses!
Officials are now looking into making A Taste of Marion an annual event as a result of the excellent turnout. The 2014-2015 Leadership Marion! class applauds our twelve event sponsors, eleven participating restaurants & caterers and everyone who made A Taste of Marion a success!
