It’s all the talk about what’s happening in Downtown Marion. The board of directors for Downtown Marion, Inc., is working hard to infuse life into the heart of our community. We believe that a strong heart (downtown) is essential to creating a strong community.
So, if you hear about the acronym LoDo and wonder what that means, it’s all about the “Lower Downtown” project.
“LoDo”, short for Lower Downtown, is the business / residential area that starts at Orchard Street (Hotel Harding) and continues west to Park Boulevard. While this area is not within the design district of Downtown Marion, Inc., it is a very important part of the overall downtown experience.
The LoDo committee was formed in June 2014 by a group of business owners for the purpose of revitalizing this neighborhood. The committee meets every two to three weeks and invites local community and political leaders to participate and generate ideas.
The lower downtown region is a heavily traveled area in the city of Marion. A recent survey, conducted over a period of seven days, resulted in a count of 8,500 cars traveling on Garden Street alone. Statistics such as these support why, if we will continue to develop ways to make Marion look better, community members will take notice causing more and more people to start doing the same thing.
While we recognize that substantial progress cannot be made quickly, the LoDo committee is committed to making Marion a great place in which to live.
