In November 2014, leadership of the First Church of the Nazarene in Marion, Ohio and representatives of Downtown Marion, Inc. began to research a concept aimed at the re-gentrification of neighborhoods in and around the downtown area. Simply stated, many homes in the core of Marion might be dramatically improved in appearance with fresh paint. The concept now known as “Paint the Town” is in the final planning stages and is scheduled to commence on May 2, 2015.
In essence, the purpose behind the initiative is to upgrade the appearance of at least two homes on a particular block to stimulate a change in the overall appearance of targeted neighborhoods. Reverend Don Diehl, senior pastor of the Nazarene congregation has embraced this idea as well as two teams of volunteers from the Nazarene congregation. It was decided by both Downtown Marion, Inc. representatives and the executive pastorate of the Nazarene congregation that owner-occupied homes would be targeted for assistance.
May 2, 2015 will be the first day for applying paint by two teams of volunteers from the Nazarene congregation, and volunteers from Downtown Marion, Inc. Both teams will operate under the direct supervision of two licensed contractors.
Preliminary estimates indicate a cost of approximately $500 per home for supplies. Contributions can be made to Downtown Marion, Inc. with instructions stating that the monies be applied to “Paint the Town”.
