In the past year, the downtown area has hosted parades, parties and gatherings that have included: the Popcorn Festival & Parade; the Christmas Parade; the New Year’s Eve Dance; Pop n’ Drop festivities; the annual Peanut Push; Downtown Marion Market (going on now through October); Cash Mobs and more.
In addition to these fun, family friendly activities, the Downtown Marion, Inc. board has instituted a beautification program that includes weeding, mulching and planting in the flower beds throughout downtown. Also, in partnership with APEX church and community members; board members have joined in to help with painting and general building clean up. It is true that for the Downtown Marion, Inc., board there is “never a dull moment”.
Everything that is being done in downtown Marion is for the purpose of attracting new businesses, enhancing current establishments and to create a sense of pride in who we are and what we offer our citizens and guests.
Lowell Thurston, owner of Carroll’s Jeweler’s, a cornerstone business in downtown Marion said, “I feel so strongly about the success of downtown Marion and what the Downtown Marion, Inc., board is doing to promote its well-being, that I contribute to the cause on a regular basis. I believe that when the going gets tough, the tough have to give a little more to get it going. We all have a stake in the success of our community, whether we are business owners or consumers.”
Because we know you want to be part of this exciting process, we have put together a Downtown Marion Sponsorship Program that is tailored to every business and individual.
In addition to the continuation of the projects listed above, we want to introduce to downtown these improvements as well:
- Portable watering station
- New Christmas decorations
- Founder’s Park fountain
- New benches
- Planters/hangers for flowers
While we are excited about all that has been done to attract business to our downtown, and to generate financial support for our projects, we know that there is still a lot that can be accomplished. With the support of friends like you and Lowell, we know that the strides we have made will soon turn into milestones. So much is planned for the coming weeks, months and years. It is our intent to continue to engage in conversation about what that future looks like. We know that business professionals such as you will help us reach these goals.
We look forward to working with you to bring about the changes necessary to grow downtown Marion, and to create an environment for all downtown businesses to thrive!
