They’ve taken the rain out of the forecast for today (Friday)!!! Prediction for 4:00? Partly sunny and 75!! WooHoo!!! For those who were with us last week, it was decidedly wet and cut short by that nasty storm. Thanks so much to my vendors who braved the elements and set up; and a big thank you to everyone who came prior to the storm and supported our local entrepreneurs.
That means Pickin’ on the Porch and the Downtown Marion Market are on big time!
Downtown Marion Market. Every Friday, 4 – 7 p.m. Be sure to come and enjoy a wonderful evening in your Downtown. Stroll West Center Street (across from the Courthouse) and pour over the fabulous selection of pies, cookies, donuts, flowers, vegetables, and jewelry. There are also scent tarts, yard art, honey, blankets, scarves, unique craft items, noodles, bread, and lawn furniture. Plus, you’ll be able to get freshly squeezed carrot/apple juice, yeast rolls, and my guess is that there’ll again be quiche and sweet potato pies. I mean why worry about baking in this heat when you can get everything you need for the weekend: fresh fritters for breakfast, fry pies for lunch, oatmeal cookies for an afternoon snack, and strawberry pie for dinner. What more do you need?!? : )
Senior Vouchers. Available at every Downtown Marion Market after 4 p.m. Low-income seniors may pick up vouchers for good for food items at the Downtown Marion Market. You must be 60 or older and make $15,000 or less as a single or $25,000 or less as a couple. Vouchers may be picked up at the Downtown Marion table under the overhang at the former PNC Bank building right on the corner of Main & Center streets. Funds for this endeavor were generously provided through a grant from the Marion Area Council on Aging.
Pickin’ on the Porch! June 7, July 5 & August 4. The stores of Charleston Place will be open (more great shopping!) and hosting a free music event. Southern Gospel group Grail will be performing in the parking lot between Charleston Place and the Chamber/CanDo building on West Center Street. Come and enjoy. (I love that kind of music, so I’m trying to figure out how to be in two places at once!)
And I believe Ray is again planning wonderful, impromptu music for the corner of Prospect & Center Streets.
So come to your Downtown … enjoy awesome shopping and a great dinner at one of our fabulous restaurants … Baires, Candy Shack & Cafe’, Infinity and The Warehouse are all open … Circa, as well, if you’d just like a cool beverage in a fabulous atmosphere. And truly … with the price of gas, what’s the point in leaving the county when you can get all this right here!
Remember … where you eat, shop and play truly, truly matters … please do it locally!
